To manage the uncertainty and pace of change, Icon Water are using Scenario Planning and Dynamic Adaptive Planning as tools for long-term planning. These videos describe how these tools work.
Icon Water's infrastructure, including dams, sewers and treatment plants, is designed to last for decades, sometimes hundreds of years. Long lived assets need long term plans, which for some assets means 50 years or more, to keep the system serving the community into the future.
Uncertainty in the future
What could the future look like in 50 years? Given what we know about the past, all we know is that the future will look significantly different to today. This uncertainty means we need a clever approach to planning for the future.
Rapid change
Our world is changing, with population, climate change, and technology advancing rapidly. We need plans and tools that will let us adapt to the future, at the same pace our operating environment is changing.

Our Strategies
As the provider of the ACT's sewerage services, Icon Water is developing a long-term Sewerage System Strategy. This strategy takes a 50 year view of the sewage treatment and collection system, in light of our changing operating environment. To do this, we've used adaptive planning tools to create an adaptable and flexible plan for our sewerage system
